ARTICLE 1. During Live Ball

第1条 ライブボール中
A ball carrier may hand or pass the ball backward at any time, except to throw the ball intentionally out of bounds to conserve time.

ボールキャリアは，いつでもボールを後方へ，手渡すあるいはパスをすることができるが，時間を節約するために故意にボールをアウトオブバウンズへ投げてはならない。

PENALTY—Five yards from the spot of the foul; also loss of down if by Team A before team possession changes during a scrimmage down (A.R. 3-4-3-III) [S35 and S9].
罰則：反則地点から5ヤード。スクリメージ ダウン中のチーム確保の変更前のAチームによる反則は，ロス オブ ダウンを伴う。

ARTICLE 2. Caught or Recovered

第2条 キャッチまたはリカバー
a. When a backward pass or fumble is caught or recovered by any inbounds player, the ball continues in play (A.R. 2-23-1-I).
a. バックワードパスまたはファンブルが，インバウンズのプレーヤーによってキャッチまたはリカバーされた場合，ボールはプレー中のままである。（A. R. 2−23−1−Ⅰ）

1. Rule 8-3-2-d-5 (Team A fumble on the try).

2. On fourth down before a change of team possession, when a TeamA fumble is caught or recovered by a Team A player other than the fumbler, the ball is dead. If the catch or recovery is beyond the spot ofthe fumble, the ball is returned to the spot of the fumble. If the catchor recovery is behind the spot of the fumble, the ball remains at thespot of the catch or recovery.
2. 第4ダウンにおいて，チーム確保の変更前に，Aチームがファンブルし，ファンブルしたプレーヤー以外のAチームのプレーヤーがキャッチまたはリカバーした場合，ボールはデッドとなる。キャッチやリカバーがファンブルした地点より前方の場合，ボールはファンブルした地点に戻される。キャッチやリカバーがファンブルした地点の手前（自己のゴール ラインの方向）の場合，ボールはキャッチまたはリカバーの地点のままである。

b. When a backward pass or fumble is caught or recovered simultaneously by opposing players, the ball becomes dead and belongs to the team last inpossession

(Exception: Rule 7-2-2-a Exceptions).
b. バックワードパスやファンブルが，両チームのプレーヤーによって同時にキャッチまたはリカバーされた場合は，ボールはデッドとなり，最後にそのボールを確保していたチームに所属する。

ARTICLE 4.  Out of Bounds

第4条 アウトオブバウンズ

a. Backward Pass. When a backward pass goes out of bounds between the goal lines, the ball belongs to the passing team at the out-of-bounds-spot.

a. バックワードパス：バックワードパスがゴールライン間でアウトオブバウンズになった場合，ボールはアウトオブバウンズの地点でパスをしたチームの所属となる。

b. Fumble. When a fumble goes out of bounds between the goal lines:

b. ファンブル：ファンブルしたボールが，ゴールライン間でアウトオブバウンズになった場合：

1. In advance of the spot of the fumble, the ball belongs to the fumbling team at the spot of the fumble (Rule 3-3-2-e-2).

1. ファンブルした地点より前方でアウトオブバウンズになった場合，ボールはファンブルした地点でファンブルしたチームに所属する。（参照：3−3−2−e−2）

2. Behind the spot of the fumble, the ball belongs to the fumbling team at the out-of-bounds spot.

2. ファンブルした地点より手前（自己のゴール ラインの方向）でアウトオブバウンズになった場合，ボールはアウトオブバウンズの地点でファンブルしたチームに所属する。

c. Behind or Beyond Goal Line.

c. ゴール ラインを越えなかった場合または越えた場合：

When a fumble or backward pass goes out of bounds behind or beyond a goal line, it is a safety or touchback depending on impetus and responsibility

ファンブルやバックワードパスがゴールラインを越えずにまたは越えた地点でアウトオブバウンズになった場合，原動力とその責任によって判断され，セイフティまたはタッチバックとなる。
